Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has taken to Twitter to give fansawaiting the release of Wonder Woman: 1984 a peek at Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva AKA Wonder Woman’s next villain, Cheetah. In the comics, Cheetah is considered to be Wonder Woman’s arch nemesis and in her life as Barbara Minerva, she is a British archaeologist and the heir to a large estate and an even larger fortune. Take this with a grain of salt because DC has been known to tamper with the original backstories.
This is the first time we’ve seen Kristen Wiig in the franchise and honestly, she looks pretty unthreatening as Barbara Minerva. In the photo, she appears to be looking at a display in a museum full of the kind of animals you’d see in the zoo like giraffes and lions.
Maybe this is the beginning of her story which is why she looks so normal, or maybe she’s just really good at pretending to not be a supervillain. Whatever the case may be, it should be really exciting to see her evolve from this version into a badass supervillain.
So far, the studio has only released a few details regarding the newest addition to the Wonder Woman franchise which makes this morsel all the sweeter. What we do know is that it’s entitled Wonder Woman: 1984, it’s set in the 1980s, and Chris Pine will likely be reprising his role in the films. We’ve also gotten a look at Wonder Woman’s new suit.
DC’s Wonder Woman: 1984 will be released November 1, 2019.
