Do you love exploring dungeons to find wild loot combos and weird monsters? How about the bouncy physics and boundless joy of Peggle? Yeah, us too. So we decided to smash those two ideas together and create the bounciest dungeon crawler you’ve ever seen! We’ve got a cartwheeling warrior, a sly rogue, and a bubbly wizard ready to ricochet their way through Roundguard’s randomized mystery dungeon, collecting treasure and clobbering enemies.
Before starting our indie studio, Wonderbelly Games, we worked in games for quite a few years, including on some big Xbox titles! Bob led the design teams for both Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, while Andrea and Kurt worked on multiple Fable games. Roundguard, on the other hand, is an indie title, so development started small; we stole minutes during our kid’s nap time, wee morning hours, and after our day jobs.
Since then, the project has grown (don’t they always?), but
our goals for the game have remained the same:
- Satisfying to play whether you have 5 minutes or 5 hours
- Full of charm with dangerously cute monsters and a cheeky sense of humor
- Friendly fun for everyone with strategic depth to challenge roguelike players
- Unique and renewable gameplay as a mystery dungeon – each run is different
We wanted Roundguard to be fun for players across genres and skill levels, from score chasers and streamers to indie fans and families. But more than anything, we wanted to make a game that we needed. We’re a few goofy nerds with love for fantasy, cartoons, and an epic D&D dungeon crawl, but we also have crazy lives and are busy most of the time. We wanted a game you could spend a Saturday with on the couch or pop in for a wind down after a long day at work. Roundguard’s mash-up of a mystery dungeon format and traditional roguelike mechanics with crazy bouncy physics hits just that spot. Roundguard is the game we needed in our lives — we hope it finds a place in yours.
