Hello!
2020 has been an eventful year in more ways than one. In spite of difficult circumstances, the small team behind No Man’s Sky at Hello Games have strived to keep the promise we made ourselves at the beginning of the year – to increase the frequency of updates to the game.
This year has already seen 5 significant updates for Xbox One fans. Less than a month ago the biggest update of the year, Origins, introduced a whole heap more to explore in the game and effectively doubled the amount there is to discover. Not to mention No Man’s Sky’s entry into Xbox Game Pass in June, which welcomed millions of new travelers to the universe.
The year is not over though, and we do have just one more thing…
We are delighted to be able to announce today that No Man’s Sky: Next Generation for Xbox Series X|S will be launching with the hardware in just a few weeks as a free update for existing owners.
The power of new hardware takes the brakes off No Man’s Sky and the procedural generation technology that underpins it in several really profound ways:
Fuller Worlds
More powerful hardware allows No Man’s Sky’s procedural generation to create lusher, richer, and more densely populated universes than ever before. Planet surfaces are even more detailed, with thousands more rocks, alien grasses, and exotic flora on screen at any time.
32-Player Multiplayer
For the first time on console, up to 32 players can join forces to build, survive, fight, and explore the galaxy together.
4K at 60fps
Xbox Series X and S both support 60 frames per second, and on Series X players can experience the universe in pin-sharp detail with 4k at 60fps.
Ultra Visuals
Explore alien vistas with improved shadows, greater draw distances, thousands more objects on screen and improved lighting and volumetric effects.
Vast Base Building
Players can now work together to build huge colonies, with the ability to construct and render far more vast and complex bases on screen.
Warp Speed Load Times
Explore the universe instantly with a 5-10x reduction in loading times. On both Xbox Series X and S, you can warp from solar system to solar system in an instant.
Crossplay
Explorers will be able to join with other adventurers on all other platforms, including previous generations.
Upgrading from Xbox One and Windows 10
Not only will previous owners of No Man’s Sky on Xbox One be able to upgrade their game to Series X|S at no extra cost when the consoles launch in their territory, but their progress can be carried across to their new console.
An Evolving Game
No Man’s Sky: Next Generation will come pre-loaded with the previous four years of huge upgrades from day one. Join in the journey at our most important moment yet.
Our next generation journey begins.
