Magic Leap’s “One Creator Edition” is finally here. “Magic Leap One”, the first product of the company’s Augmented Reality technology, will be made public to developers in 2018. Still, there is no price available yet.
After raising more than $1.8 billion across four investments rounds and making several bold announcements about changing the Augmented Reality game, Magic Leap finally revealed their first product.
Magic Leap’s first AR headset is called “Magic Leap One”. It consists of a surprisingly small AR headset named “Lightwear”, which looks significantly smaller than the competitors’ models. Also, you get a remote-like controller trackpad that offers six degrees of freedom (6DOF) tracking. Last but not least, everything is tethered to a small wearable computing device named “Lightpack”. It offers a computing performance the company compares to a regular laptop PC.
The Lightwear AR glasses are fitted with sensors; eight can be seen on the front. These sensors gather 3D readings of real-world surroundings. With the acquired information, the device uses projections to produce virtual objects. It also measures and emulates lighting conditions, which makes the AR experience much more lifelike. As the device will store the data of the room, the AR can even “interact” with objects in the real world, if programmed to do so. The device also replicates real-world sounds using 3D “soundfield” audio features.
Inputs include eye-tracking, voice recognition, head position, gesture recognition and movement in general.
Magic Leap One: Available to Developers in 2018, No Date Set for Consumers

Magic Leap will ship “Magic Leap One” to developers in 2018. They are also launching a “Creator Portal” at the same time. It will include learning resources, tools, documentation, and support. Find out more on their website.
