Many of gaming’s most compelling stories come from those who’ve helped to create our favorite Xbox One games. In our Inside Xbox One X Enhanced series, these creators will share the behind-the-scenes accounts of the work involved in enhancing these epic games for Xbox One X, how they’ve helped chart the course of the world’s most powerful console, and what that means for the future of gaming. Today, we’ll be chatting with DICE Technical Director Christian Holmquist about enhancing Battlefield V for Xbox One X.
What specifically is your development team doing to enhance Battlefield V for Xbox One X?
The game features 4K Ultra HD and HDR support, which means an incredibly sharp, detailed, and true-to-life image.
How do these enhancements impact the gaming experience?
Aside from the stunning graphics mentioned above, the team has also increased shadow map resolution, making your experience even more realistic-looking and immersive. And the faster processor available in the Xbox One X enables Ultra HD resolution gaming at higher frame rates.
Why did your development team choose to focus on these enhancement areas?
While 4K and HDR may not be the standard currently, the day is coming when it will. It just made sense to put in the extra effort when it came to the Xbox One X, as it already offered the highest-quality image with the most stable frame rate. It was, in short, a win-win.
How has the process been to get the game up and running on Xbox One X?
The DICE team have a great deal of expertise making games look incredible on the Xbox One, so transitioning to the more powerful Xbox One X went smoothly. There really weren’t any surprises during the entire process.
How do you expect fans of Battlefield V will respond to seeing/playing it on Xbox One X with these enhancements
Out of all the console platforms on the market, the Xbox One X has the highest quality image with the most stable frame rate. We’ve worked very hard to make sure that players feel like they made the right choice playing Battlefield V on this console.
What enhancements were you most excited about leveraging for Battlefield V on Xbox One X?
The increased resolution was the most obvious difference and the most exciting to explore. Whether you’re peering at a tiny buckle on an enemy soldier’s uniform or taking in the magnificent yellow-orange plume of a V-1 Rocket, you’ll see it all with amazing clarity.
What does 4K and HDR mean for your game, games in the future and development at your studio?
The team is gearing up for a future of graphical feature development with 4K as their primary target, not an optional extra.
